The 2016 Speakers Circuit

The DPOC re-launched our Speaker Circuit series this year! These events will be held on a regular basis at different locations throughout Orange County with guest speakers that all have strong community interests.

Below are a list of the speakers we’ve hosted so far this year:

We started off the year with State Senate President pro Tem Kevin de Léon who spoke to us about his landmark climate change legislation that passed last year and how he envisions leading Democrats during this year’s election.

We celebrated Women’s History Month in March by spotlighting distinguished and dynamic women leaders.  These women – who have traveled different paths – shared their varied perspectives on how they have become successful and influential leaders in their professions and political careers.

The discussion was moderated by Jennifer Muir, General Manager of the Orange County Employees Association.  Jennifer is a former journalist who was recently named one of the 100 Most Influential in Orange County by the Orange County Register.

United Methodist Pastor Frank Schaefer joined us to discuss his amazing story of taking on the Methodist Church and winning! In a highly publicized Church trial, Pastor Schaefer was defrocked in 2013 for officiating at his son’s same-sex wedding when he refused to denounce gay marriage rights. He was reinstated on an appeal in 2014 and has continued to advocate for human rights while working in a new United Methodist parish in Isla Vista California.
