Orange, CA           Last night, former ExxonMobil CEO, Rex Tillerson was sworn in as the new Secretary of State of the United States. Tillerson made a career striking deals with oppressive countries and running roughshod over the U.S. State Department, now the very department he has been confirmed to lead.

DPOC is very concerned that Tillerson will care more about the ExxonMobil’s bottom line than the key interests for the United States. Add that to Trump’s recent actions on the world stage with Germany, Mexico, and Australia, DPOC just is not confident Tillerson will hold countries like Russia accountable or be able to counteract President Trump’s aggression.

Secretary Tillerson’s ascent into his role comes on the heels of a mass dismissal of the State Department senior leadership. With the potential of global calamity at the hands of President Trump at every turn, Secretary Tillerson’s job just became tougher.

Fran Sdao, Chairwoman of the Democratic Party of Orange County stated, “Rex Tillerson as our Secretary of State really troubles me. His lack of clear cut answers on Russia during his confirmation hearing leaves me to doubt how he will hold them accountable for lord know what else President Putin, or even Trump, attempts in the coming years. Couple that with Tillerson’s viewpoints on the environment, I just can’t support him.”
