Nov 2, 2018, Orange, Calif. — Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Fran Sdao issued a warning to voters today about fake Democratic voter guides that promote Republican candidates.
Fake voter guides were sent to voters in Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, and Huntington Beach. Some mailers mimic official statewide voter guides, with “Democratic Voter Guide” written next to an image of the state of California and donkey icon. All feature the iconic donkey image that is widely associated with the Democratic Party.
The “guides” promote Republican and no party preference candidates, and were paid for by some of the candidates featured in the mailers.
“These mailers are a violation of public trust,” said Sdao. “I urge voters to ask the candidates in these fake voter guides to explain why they want to mislead communities.”
Sdao urges voters to look for the official Democratic Party of Orange County logo or endorsement seal on official Democratic Party mail and guides. Non-affiliated guides also disclose that they are not paid for by an “official political party organization.”
