Orange, Calif. The blue wave keeps rolling in Orange County. Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) Chair Ada Briceño commended organizers in the city of Costa Mesa today for flipping the city’s voter registration to Democratic-majority.

This is the first time in more than 60 years that Costa Mesa’s voter majority is Democratic, according to the Costa Mesa Democratic Club. The historic change brings Costa Mesa’s voter registration into alignment with its newly elected Democratic-majority City Council, and is widely seen as yet another in a series of rapid political changes underway throughout Orange County.

Residents of Costa Mesa and all of Orange County have new priorities for our communities, shaped by inclusive and common sense values,” Chair Briceño said. “Orange County’s once famously popular social conservative movement is slipping into history. These changes are the result of hard work and organizing led by communities across Costa Mesa and the region. I commend our community organizers, campaigns and elected officials for inspiring new political engagement, and giving voters a positive new direction.”

Countywide voter registration is nearly equal between Republican and Democratic registration, with Democratic registration just .7% behind Republican registration according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters. This has narrowed from a gap of 1% in November 2018.
