Orange, Calif. —  The Democratic Party of Orange County today announced it has hit a high-priority growth milestone. There are now more than 600,000 registered Democratic Party voters countywide, which gives Democrats a 35,000 voter lead over Republicans in the nation’s 6th largest county.

Responding to the exciting breakthrough, Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Ada Briceño said:

“This latest victory represents years of hard work by Democrats across Orange County. We believe in building our party one person at a time. We’re connecting with people about the issues impacting all of us.

It’s clear that during this pandemic, our Democratic elected leaders, from Congress to School Board, are putting families first. We are proud of our Democratic leaders for standing up for our essential workers, and working to ensure that no community is left behind.

Orange County residents overwhelmingly believe our Democratic Party values are the way to lead. We welcome everyone who wants to help make change happen.”

Orange County Democrats now hold a 2.1% countywide voter registration advantage over the GOP. These gains occurred in less than a year: In August of 2019, Democrats overtook countywide voter registration to become the region’s leading political party. The current total of registered Democratic voters is now 600,828, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters

About the Democratic Party of Orange County

Once famously known as “Reagan country” after President Reagan declared Orange County the place where “all good Republicans go to die,” the southern California region is rapidly shifting into a highly diverse Democratic metropolis.

Orange County Democrats made national headlines for sweeping all seven Congressional seats in Orange County in 2018, and again less than a year later, when Democrats overtook voter registration to become the county’s leading political party.

The Democratic Party of Orange County, Chaired by Ada Briceño, released its Year in Review showing critical advancements in fundraising and grassroots organizing throughout 2019, in anticipation of critical electoral work in 2020.

The Democratic Party of Orange County is the official organization for Democrats in California’s third-largest (and America’s sixth-largest) county, of 3.2 million residents. With more than 600,000 registered Democrats, Orange County has a larger Democratic voter base than many U.S. states.
