December 4, 2019 – Orange, Calif. — The Democratic Party of Orange County issued formal endorsements for candidates for Orange County Board of Supervisors and Orange County Board of Education.

Candidates will be on the ballot for the primary elections on March 3, 2020. Vote-by-mail ballots will be mailed out starting February 3, 2020.

The Democratic Party of Orange County Central Committee endorsed:

  • Orange County Board of Supervisors, District 1: Sergio Contreras
  • Orange County Board of Supervisors, District 3: Ashleigh Aitken
  • Orange County Board of Education, Area 1: Beckie Gomez
  • Orange County Board of Education, Area 3: Andy Thorburn

Ada Briceño, Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County, called upon Democrats to support the candidates:

“We need all hands on deck to contact voters and urge them to vote,” said Briceño. “Republican incumbents have been starving our social safety net programs, ignoring rampant abuses, and dismantling rights and protections for at-risk youth and adults.”

In 2020, Democrats are focused on expanding their representation in local elections and expanding the number of Democrat candidates in local races. In 2018, Orange County Democrats took control of their first Board of Supervisors seat since 2006, with the election of Doug Chaffee to District 4.

The Democratic Party of Orange County (DPOC) is the official organization for Democrats in California’s third-largest (and America’s sixth-largest) county of 3.2 million residents.

Once famously known as a Republican stronghold, Democrats overtook voter registration in Orange County in 2019, and are now the region’s leading political party.
