Congratulations, Democrats! Upon successful election results from the OC Registrar of Voters for the Santa Ana Special Election on Tuesday, May 19, Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Ada Briceño released the following statement:

“Santa Ana Special Election results are in, and it’s clear: Voters overwhelmingly chose Democrats to lead.

The recall successfully removed Cecilia Iglesias, a Republican so closely aligned with Donald Trump’s anti-immigration policies that she’s nicknamed “Latina Trump.” Voters removed her by a wide 11-point margin of 55% to 44%. Among total votes cast for new leadership, Democrats earned 79% of the vote.

Congratulations to Ward 6 City Councilmember-elect Nelida Mendoza. She is an experienced leader and school district trustee who understands how to put families first. DPOC-endorsed candidate Thai Viet Phan ran a strong campaign, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.

Thank you to every Democrat who volunteered in this special election. Your work made this victory possible, and here we proved that the largest political party in Orange County has the momentum to elect Democrats up and down the ballot through November 2020 and beyond.”
