November 29, 2018 — Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Fran Sdao released the following statement today regarding her decision to complete her term as Chair and not seek re-election in the next regularly scheduled leadership elections:

“It is with overwhelming pride in our Democratic community and great excitement that I announce my decision to pass the baton of leadership to a new Chair of the Democratic Party of Orange County.

A change in family circumstances will require me to reduce my time in Orange County but will allow me opportunities for extensive travel and exploration. I will remain on the Central Committee, and hope to continue to contribute as DPOC develops new campaigns and events.

Western Regional Vice Chair Diana Carey, Central Regional Vice Chair Dr. Jeanette Burns, and Southern Regional Vice Chair Farrah Khan are also stepping down in January. I thank them for their tireless leadership and support. Elections for Chair, Vice Chairs, Treasurer and Secretary will be held during our regularly scheduled leadership elections in January.

In two short years, our Orange County Democratic community has experienced unprecedented growth. We “flipped the House” and elected Democrats at every level of office.

My short tenure leaves our Democratic Party infrastructure stronger. DPOC doubled the number of local endorsed candidates, launched a new grassroots organizing program to build relationships with voters, chartered exciting new Democratic Clubs, and oversaw historic growth in fundraising. We worked to implement club charter reforms, bylaws reforms, our first anti-harassment policies, and a staff reorganization.

I am especially proud of our entire Democratic community. My heartfelt thanks and gratitude go to Democratic candidates and elected officials for their commitment to excellent public service, and to our hardworking Central Committee members and Democratic Clubs for tireless organizing and dedication to our values.

Today, Orange County’s wealth of Democratic leadership is humbling. Our strong, vibrant community is already at work for 2019 and beyond. Our next two years will see exciting growth, and I will forever be honored to have been part of our blue wave.”
