November 9, 2018: Today Democratic Party of Orange County Chair Fran Sdao issued the following statement regarding the historic 2018 Midterm results that are currently rolling in.

“For Orange County Democrats, the 2018 midterms catapulted new energetic candidates, new clubs, new organizing, and new partnerships. OC Democrats captured national attention, challenged the status quo, ran historic campaigns, and successfully broke new ground to gain Democratic majorities at multiple levels of office.

We shook the nation by taking a Democratic majority of Orange County’s Congressional delegation to help retake the U.S. House of Representatives, and we are closely watching neck-and-neck races that could flip State Assembly District 74 and Orange County Board of Supervisors District 4 to Democratic leadership.

Democrats should especially be proud of our growing “blue bench” of local candidates. Local community leaders build the foundation for long-term growth, and this year saw significant gains. Santa Ana, once the only Democratic-majority city council in Orange County, is now joined by Costa Mesa with decisive victories for Katrina Foley, Andrea Marr, Manuel Chavez, and Arlis Reynolds.

Irvine, Fullerton, Buena Park, Aliso Viejo, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach-area voters elected more Democratic representatives to local city councils and school districts. Overall, 65% of DPOC endorsed candidates won their races. As results continue to roll in, we could win more.

These are all significant accomplishments. New energetic, resourceful, and organized leaders are stepping up to represent today’s diverse Orange County.

We’re not resting on our laurels. We will never stop fighting for policies that lift up our middle class and create opportunity and freedom for all. We fight for good jobs, affordable housing, our environment, healthcare, public schools and teachers, immigration reform, human rights, and equality, and much more.

Democrats across Orange County are closely watching ballot returns and continuing to support campaigns in close races. And at 5:00 pm today, residents are rallying in Yorba Linda, Irvine, Santa Ana and Long Beach against Donald Trump’s alarming new efforts to end the Mueller investigations.

We’re not wasting any time. 2020 will be here soon.”

In solidarity,

Fran Sdao
Chair, Democratic Party of Orange County
